P190 / PC power / Connector

8-pin +12 V CPU power connector (EPS12V form)

The documented +12 V processor-power interface includes an 8-pin / 2x4 connector form used for CPU power.

Also called EPS12V CPU 8 pin 4+4 CPU power 2x4 CPU power

CPU power and PCIe auxiliary power are separate cable roles, even when both have eight positions.

Look for

Read the motherboard CPU-power label and PSU cable designation; do not substitute a PCIe cable because the shell looks similar.

Is the CPU end enough to identify the whole cable?

FIELD NOTES 03

No. The component-end CPU role and the modular PSU-end cable type are separate decisions. The familiar 4+4 split does not settle PSU compatibility.

SOURCE-SUPPORTED LEAD

What the evidence supports

Use the EPS designation at the component end and the exact PSU’s documented cable type at the other end.

EXPLICIT SOURCE EXCLUSION

What not to conclude

CORSAIR explicitly excludes Type 3/4 cables from Type 5 supplies.

NOT ESTABLISHED

Keep this check open

Cavity keys, an unknown cable’s wiring and cross-brand substitution remain unverified.

Before you choose a part

  1. Record the exact PSU model and its compatible cable type.
  2. Read the motherboard’s processor-power designation.
  3. Stop if the cable identity or either end is uncertain.

Cable division concept. CORSAIR CPU cable example. 4+4 groups, not a mating face. Independently fitted; not a size reference.

What this view supports

  1. Two equally sized labelled groups: 4 + 4
  2. The concept describes the component end, never the modular PSU socket

What remains unknown

This is not a drawing of cavity keys, pins, latches or a universal EPS cable.

Why no physical view? Linked CORSAIR product image unavailable; Intel text/table does not establish the desired external view.

The next useful check

Read the cable label, exact PSU cable compatibility and the board connector designation before any connection.

INTERNAL SYSTEMS / POWER

An EPS CPU 8-pin is not the GPU PCIe 8-pin

The Intel ATX guide separately defines processor +12 V 2×4 power and PCIe add-in-card auxiliary power. Similar position counts do not establish the same keying, wiring, destination or protection. CPU/EPS 4+4 and GPU/PCIe 6+2 should be identified by original cable labeling and exact motherboard/PSU manuals.

Conceptual role comparison: CPU / EPS +12 V versus GPU / PCIe auxiliary. Similar number of positions ≠ identical keys, wiring, modular PSU ends. Not to scale, no pinout or mechanical mating dimensions.
Two eight-pin power destinations. Original qualitative role diagram; not mechanical artwork, not to scale or a wiring map. Source context S198 · S199.

Three checks before proceeding

  1. Locate CPU_PWR / EPS designation and the motherboard’s installation instructions.
  2. Confirm original harness marking and PSU model for the CPU feed.
  3. Stop if the keys, housing or cable route do not match the maker instructions.

One mistake to avoid

Forcing an eight-position GPU lead into a CPU header or using an adapter to defeat a key.

Claim-specific evidence remains in the canonical record. Concept diagrams do not show any safe wiring or mechanical mating geometry.

Check these next

  1. Read the socket designation in the motherboard or graphics-card manual.
  2. Match the cable’s documented role and type to the exact PSU model.
  3. Stop when the cable provenance, designation or housing does not match; do not defeat keys or improvise wiring.

Keep this limit: Incorrect modular PSU cable types can damage hardware. This comparison is not a pinout or interchangeability authorization. C192D
