FIELD GUIDESource-led reference

Port & Cable

Show the evidence. Keep the unknowns.

Physical form, protocol, cable or converter class, signal direction, power and exact-device implementation are separate questions.

Sources and scope

Use standards organizations and original manufacturers for the claims their documents actually support. Record the exact part, revision, section and viewpoint where available. A public overview, search extract, full-text inspection and page-image inspection are different evidence types. An inaccessible document is not a completed inspection.

Review methods

AI-assisted source inspection, same-source transcription comparison, independent source corroboration, image review, qualified human technical review and hardware validation are distinct methods. Source checked does not mean independently approved. Review status applies only to its stated scope and bytes; a later substantive change requires renewed review.

Schematics, illustrations and photographs

Original recognition schematics are qualitative and not to scale. Computer-generated illustrations are labeled as illustrations, not photographs, measured specimens or evidence of exact contact placement. Photographs, when available, need their own part/view identification and reuse permission. A known incorrect depiction must be corrected or withheld; a plausible picture is not measurement evidence.

Pinouts and dimensions

Some records include source-scoped contact assignments and engineering variants. Read the exact part/revision, mating-face versus termination-side viewpoint, numbering convention, omissions and per-variant review status. Same-source cross-checking is not independent engineering approval. A missing dimension or unknown contact assignment must not be replaced by an inferred value. These references do not establish manufacturing tolerances, fabrication approval or universal wiring.

Connection answers

Answers describe documented directions and prerequisites. Unknown or inconclusive means the required evidence is missing or outside the modeled scope; physical fit is not an electrical or functional result. Exact device roles, supported modes, cable class, power and software may all matter. A rules-based result is not a hardware test.

Dates and revisions

Individual source inspection dates remain attached to their sources; a site assessment or editorial update does not re-inspect them. The inherited research-expansion date is 2026-10-15. The current program assessment date is 2026-10-22. Record revisions and review scope take precedence over a general site date.
