Network question

Is RJ45 the connector or Ethernet?

Keep the familiar RJ45/8P8C modular form separate from Ethernet service, link rate, PoE and exact wiring/application.

The answer

Short answer RJ45 (properly 8P8C) names the plug shape. Ethernet is one of the things that can run through it.

Treat RJ45/8P8C as a physical-form identification problem first. Ethernet, link rate, PoE and device role are separate implementation questions.

Why the simple answer is not enough

Keep the evidence layers separate

1Reasoning step

Identify the modular connector form without assuming the service carried on it.

2Reasoning step

Verify Ethernet and PoE behavior on the exact equipment.

3Reasoning step

Use cable markings and exact construction evidence for the patch cord rather than the plug outline alone.

What to check next

  1. Physical modular form
  2. Exact equipment service
  3. Link-rate requirement
  4. PoE requirement and cable/system evidence

They reorganize facts and uncertainty already represented in the atlas. Exact-device, cable, protocol, power, safety and performance requirements remain separate where the evidence says they are separate.
