video question

Does VGA carry audio?

Keep the conventional VGA video path separate from the audio path and any combined cable assembly.

The answer

Short answer No. VGA carries video only; audio needs a separate cable.

Conventional RGB/VGA is a video connection, not an audio channel. The NEC VT37 computer-connection example uses a separate audio cable alongside VGA.

Why the simple answer is not enough

Keep the evidence layers separate

1Reasoning step

The cited pin table contains RGB video, synchronization and control functions, not a speaker or microphone channel. DDC data is not evidence of an audio transport.

2Reasoning step

A cable assembly can package separate connections together. Inspect all ends and the exact cable documentation rather than assuming that an audio lead changes the role of the fifteen VGA contacts.

3Reasoning step

A visible picture answers a video question only. Check the source’s audio output, the intended destination’s audio input and any separate amplifier or speakers.

4Reasoning step

An adapter label does not settle where audio enters or leaves a converter. Record its exact model and documented audio behavior instead of inferring it from VGA at one end.

What to check next

  1. Locate the video output and actual audio output on the source.
  2. Locate the corresponding inputs on the destination.
  3. Check whether a combined cable has independent audio connectors.
  4. For a converter, check the direction and audio handling in its own manual.

Question pages do not create compatibility verdicts.

They reorganize facts and uncertainty already represented in the atlas. Exact-device, cable, protocol, power, safety and performance requirements remain separate where the evidence says they are separate.
