Storage and memory cards question

Do two supported card families mean two usable slots?

Distinguish alternative cards, physical slots, insertion and simultaneous access.

The answer

Short answer Not necessarily. Sony’s MRW-G2, for example, has one shared slot for CFexpress Type A or SD, so only one card at a time.

No. Sony’s MRW-G2 instructions show one shared slot for CFexpress Type A or SD and prohibit inserting two cards at once. The cited Transcend RDF8 documents contain incompatible simultaneous-insertion statements, so this reference leaves that behavior unresolved rather than claiming a parallel-transfer feature.

Why the simple answer is not enough

Keep the evidence layers separate

1Reasoning step

A compatibility list can name alternative card families for a single physical opening. It is not a slot inventory.

2Reasoning step

The MRW-G2 manual explicitly resolves the shared-slot question. The Sony Type A and SD alternatives are modeled as one slot, not two independent readers.

3Reasoning step

For RDF8, one specification says three cards can be plugged in simultaneously. A second sheet says two at once in its feature text, then says simultaneous insertion of two is not supported in its operating note.

4Reasoning step

The conflicting RDF8 statements are not reconciled by assuming a hardware revision. Even documented insertion would not establish simultaneous reading, writing or aggregate throughput.

What to check next

  1. Count the physical slots using the exact model’s manual.
  2. Separate alternative families in one opening from independent card slots.
  3. Distinguish insertion from concurrent access and measured transfer performance.
  4. For RDF8 concurrent use, obtain revision-specific manufacturer confirmation before relying on any conflicting wording.
