Fiber question

What does A–B mean on a one-fiber simplex cable listing?

Do not turn generic marketing wording into a documented two-fiber mapping.

The answer

Short answer Nothing definite: a one-fiber cable has no pair to map, so that listing wording stays unresolved.

It does not establish a duplex pair mapping. The Vericom specification identifies the selected LC UPC–SC APC cord as simplex with one fiber, while the product page uses generic A–B polarity wording. This reference records that wording as unresolved instead of inventing a second fiber or a verified mapping.

LC fiber connectorComputer-generated illustration, not a photograph
SC fiber connector — exterior side sketch; plug-style exterior; original, not-to-scale identification schematic; drawing review pending
SC fiber connectorOriginal identification schematic · not to scale · review pending

Why the simple answer is not enough

Keep the evidence layers separate

1Reasoning step

The specification’s ordering row identifies the two connector ends. The construction table identifies one fiber and OS2 (G.652.D).

2Reasoning step

The product page’s broader polarity/cassette language is retained as a source conflict, not silently discarded or adopted as a product capability.

3Reasoning step

A–B may be used in different labeling contexts. These sources do not resolve exactly what the generic website sentence means for this particular simplex item.

4Reasoning step

Different polish labels at the opposite ends describe separate joints. Each joint still needs an appropriate matching polish; this is not a direct UPC/APC mating exception.

Scroll horizontally on narrow screens. These are documented product-family examples, not a verdict about the cable, adapter or equipment in front of you.

What to check next

  1. Record the exact part pattern and select the needed length from current manufacturer information.
  2. Use the explicit one-fiber construction when describing this source, not a duplex assumption.
  3. Seek a product-specific clarification before relying on the generic polarity sentence.
  4. Verify each end’s mating polish and the exact optical equipment requirements.
