Audio question

Does a Mini-TOSLINK adapter convert analog audio?

Distinguish optical form adaptation from signal conversion and device capability.

The answer

Short answer No. It only adapts the optical plug; it does not convert analog audio.

The documented Hosa GOP-490 path adapts an optical cable to a combination optical jack. Its description does not establish analog-to-digital conversion, analog output or codec decoding.

Why the simple answer is not enough

Keep the evidence layers separate

1Reasoning step

Start with the socket’s actual role. The same nominal 3.5 mm size does not add optical capability to an analog-only port; named combination sockets are device-specific examples.

2Reasoning step

Compare the named adapter with an optical cable rather than treating either as a complete audio system. The existing THINTOSMIN6 reference is a cable example; GOP-490 is the form adapter described by Hosa.

3Reasoning step

For a path that actually changes between analog and digital, seek explicit conversion and direction evidence. Do not fill missing conversion, supported formats, power or device roles from the shapes of the two ends.

Scroll horizontally on narrow screens. The last row is an evidence gap, not a new product specification or a declaration that every headphone socket lacks optical support.

What to check next

  1. Confirm optical support at the exact 3.5 mm socket.
  2. Read whether the accessory adapts a form or explicitly converts a signal.
  3. Check receiver input, output direction and format independently.
