PORT & CABLE / KNOW WHAT CONNECTS.

FIELD SHEET 06 — 06 / INTERNAL STORAGE / SOURCE-SCOPED REFERENCE

Same transport. Different cable families.

Both OCuLink and MCIO can serve PCIe connections. Can I swap the cable ends?

06/06
FIRST ANSWER

No interchangeability follows from a common PCIe use case. Molex identifies Nano-Pitch I/O in OCuLink applications and Mini Cool Edge I/O (MCIO) as a separate connector family with multiple variants. Trace exact ends, lane configuration, equipment and power.

Not yet verified. A visually similar internal cable does not establish lane map or interchangeability.

Two distinct conceptual paths: a documented OCuLink host with its specified harness and endpoint; a documented MCIO host with its own specified assembly and endpoint. No cross-family mating or adapter is depicted.
Separate form families and example use cases only; not a pin map, lane assignment or approval for passive adapters.

Four evidence layers

01 / Host form
Molex S242 identifies a Nano-Pitch I/O family for OCuLink applications.
02 / Other family
Molex S282 identifies Mini Cool Edge I/O (MCIO), with separately specified variants.
03 / Transport path
Board, harness, lane count, mode, sideband and endpoint are exact-assembly questions.
04 / Evidence limit
No family overview proves universal cables or OCuLink-to-MCIO adapters.

Check in order

  1. Read the motherboard/controller connector ID and exact SFF designation.
  2. Find the OEM-approved harness or adapter part number and inspect both specified ends.
  3. Confirm documented endpoint transport, lane configuration, power and installation procedure.
STILL UNKNOWN

Cross-family physical mating, breakout/sideband wiring, lane negotiation and adapter interoperability are unverified.

03 / BEFORE YOU CONNECT

What would resolve this?

Not yet verified. A visually similar internal cable does not establish lane map or interchangeability.

Record these model-specific facts before making a decision:

  • Both endpoint board/assembly model numbers
  • Required connector family, lane count and keyed variant
  • Approved cable assembly and documentation for both ends

If a required model-specific source is missing, leave compatibility unknown. Never substitute connector appearance, this illustration or the print sheet for product documentation.
