FIELD SHEET 01 — 01 / MEMORY MEDIA / SOURCE-SCOPED REFERENCE

Three card labels. Two envelope sizes.

Is this CFexpress Type A, Type B, or XQD—and will my reader accept it?

01/06
FIRST ANSWER

Type A has a smaller published envelope. Type B and XQD share published exterior dimensions and a connector family but remain different standards. Identify the printed card designation, then confirm exact camera or reader support.

Not yet verified. Form identification alone cannot establish camera or reader support.

Nominal front-face comparison on one internal drawing scale: CFexpress Type A is 20 × 28 mm; CFexpress Type B and XQD are both 29.6 × 38.5 mm. Contact geometry and card keys are not depicted.
Envelope proportions only; not printed at 1:1 and not a fitting template. Nominal thicknesses: Type A 2.8 mm; Type B and XQD 3.8 mm.

Four evidence layers

01 / Visible clue
Check the printed CFexpress A, CFexpress B or XQD designation.
02 / Published size
Type A: 20 × 28 × 2.8 mm. Type B / XQD: 29.6 × 38.5 × 3.8 mm, nominal.
03 / Exact host
Confirm the precise camera or reader model, supported card standard, firmware and recording/media restrictions.
04 / Evidence limit
CFA and Sony references establish naming and nominal product envelopes, not card contact geometry or every device’s support.

Check in order

  1. Read the card label and compare the nominal envelope; never force a sample card into a slot.
  2. Find the camera or reader’s exact-model supported-media list and any firmware conditions.
  3. Match the card’s full model and intended use; treat absent support evidence as unknown.
STILL UNKNOWN

No illustrated edge keys, contacts, insertion tolerances or proof that any particular camera/reader accepts two named standards.

03 / BEFORE YOU CONNECT

What would resolve this?

Not yet verified. Form identification alone cannot establish camera or reader support.

Record these model-specific facts before making a decision:

  • Card standard and exact product designation
  • Camera/reader model and firmware version
  • Manufacturer-supported media list for that exact model

If a required model-specific source is missing, leave compatibility unknown. Never substitute connector appearance, this illustration or the print sheet for product documentation.
