Coax / RF question

BNC, Mini-BNC and HD-BNC: are they the same connector?

A panel-density illustration is not a mating-interface drawing, and similar names do not identify the same counterpart.

The answer

Short answer No. BNC, Mini-BNC and HD-BNC are separate connector families; match exact parts or use a documented adapter between them.

Treat them as separately documented connector families. The manufacturer’s compact-panel examples describe spacing between connector positions, not a universal interface diameter. Match exact parts or a documented between-series adapter.

Why the simple answer is not enough

Keep the evidence layers separate

1Reasoning step

The broadcast brief labels BNC, Mini-BNC and HD-BNC separately. An approximate outside size is only a recognition clue.

2Reasoning step

Its 15.5 mm, 13.1 mm and 8 mm figures describe illustrated panel pitches. They are not contact pitch, mating diameter, drilling instructions or required installation clearance.

3Reasoning step

The HD-BNC guide provides an explicit BNC-to-HD-BNC adapter example. The need to identify each side remains visible rather than collapsing them into one connector.

4Reasoning step

After matching the family and counterpart, check impedance and exact-product operating evidence separately. Do not force an uncertain fit.

What to check next

  1. Find the connector-family and exact-part marking.
  2. Use the manufacturer’s mating drawing rather than measuring a panel-spacing illustration.
  3. For an adapter, identify both sides and the relevant impedance.
  4. Keep uncertain physical fit unresolved rather than forcing the parts.
