68-contact VHDCI SCSI connector

VHDCI is a very-high-density 68-contact external connector form documented in Amphenol SCSI cable assemblies.

Also called VHDCI 68 Very High Density Cable Interconnect 68-pin VHDCI VHDCI SCSI

A 68-contact count does not make VHDCI interchangeable with MDR or other 68-position interfaces; shell and mating family must match.

Look for

Identify the narrow VHDCI shell and verify a documented VHDCI SCSI assembly rather than selecting by “68-pin SCSI” wording alone.

The useful distinction

Recognize it. Then verify it.

Before you connect

What to check

  1. Identify the exact connector family and variant from the equipment or cable documentation.
  2. Keep shape, contact count, protocol, electrical rating and device support as separate facts.
  3. Do not force, rewire or adapt a connector from this recognition record; resolve the remaining requirements first.

Pins & wiring

Pinout

Choose the exact wiring. Pin numbers follow its stated view; a schematic does not establish physical positions. Check your exact device before wiring.

What the status labels mean
Confirmed
Recorded research passes agree within this variant; this is not independent human review or hardware validation.
Single source
Only one underlying document, or one pass, supports this assignment.
Device-specific
Supported for the named equipment or wiring only. Check your device’s manual.
Unverified
Missing or conflicting evidence. Do not wire from this row.
Not connected
The source explicitly says NC, no contact or no pin for this wiring.

LSI Logic LSIU40SE external J3/J7 16-bit single-ended Ultra SCSI

View and evidence limits

Numbered pins of LSIU40SE external J3/J7 VHDCI receptacles. Table A.3 establishes pin functions; it does not establish a mating-face left/right layout.

  • P246 VHDCI SCSI 68 — **Partial; agree on comparable single-ended functions** — A's Sun single-ended map and B's LSIU40SE J3/J7 map agree on the data, control, power and return assignments that both verify. Sun's `SP(15)-` on 38 remains unverified; LSI independently calls its own 38 SD15/. Preserve cable-sense behavior at 34/50 rather than flattening it to ordinary ground. A's Sun differential and Intel SE7520JR2 maps remain separate; their differing assignments and Intel's six reserved contacts were not repaired with B's single-ended map. Different primary documents and manufacturers.
  • This complete map is specific to the LSIU40SE single-ended SCSI implementation. LVD, HVD and instrumentation/DAQ uses are unverified; no HD68-only appendix was transferred to VHDCI.
  • Table A.3 is an electrical pin-number table. No explicit mating-face versus termination-side numbered drawing was established.
