Observation lesson

Separate the connector role from the contact role

“Cable plug” describes the component in the connection. “Pin” or “socket” describes the conductive contact. These are separate observations; reverse-polarity RF examples show why the words cannot be substituted.

Applies to: Disconnected observation and interpretation of source-scoped examples. Exercises are illustrative arithmetic, not specimen measurements.

Worked source example

Amphenol 132134RP is a jack with a male centre pin in the saved source-scoped comparison; ordinary SMA jack wording alone does not identify its contact.

Amphenol RF 132134RP — board-jack and thread fields · TE Connectivity Linx cross-reference — RP-SMA role labels and limits

Try this observation

Record cable/board/panel role first, then the visible pin/socket contact. If the centre is hidden, retain an unknown contact role.

Your next useful observation

Obtain the disconnected mating end and the cable/board mounting side.

Keep these limits

  • A matching candidate is not confirmed identity or compatibility. Do not probe energized contacts or infer geometry from an illustration.

The competitor-description rows identify a jack with a male pin. TE explicitly does not assert exact equivalence; this guide is not a replacement approval or a source for uninspected geometry.
