Power banks: energy, port output and sharing are different

Compare stored energy in Wh and the exact port/profile for the task. A large mAh number or total-watt headline does not tell you a device's charging rate or number of recharges.

Applies to: Three exact Anker models, with unknown Wh retained where the inspected source does not state it. No product recommendation or travel-transport approval.

Units need their reference voltage

Wh = Ah × nominal battery voltage. Do not multiply a bank's cell-rated mAh by an arbitrary USB output voltage. Delivered USB energy is lower and depends on conversion, load, cable, temperature and cutoff. Without applicable measured efficiency, do not invent a recharge count.

Output and recharge paths have different limits

The bank can have separate input, individual output and total shared ratings. Pass-through operation is a separate exact-model condition, not an automatic feature of two USB-C ports.

Worked documentary examples

Anker737 A1289 —24,000mAh /140W total

Documented outcome: Exact model energy/output comparison

  • C1 and C2 each list up-to28V5A as individual options; total output is140W, not140W per simultaneously used port. C1 recharges the bank. Wh is not established by the inspected product page.
  1. Read exact output port, profile and occupied-port case for the intended load.
  2. For >100W use the documented EPR source/cable/device path; neither capacity nor the USB-C outline establishes it.
  3. Do not promise pass-through charging or count battery recharges unless that exact model/mode is documented.

AnkerPrime A1336 —20,000mAh /200W total

Documented outcome: Exact model energy/output comparison

  • C1/C2 PD output up-to20V5A each; documented PPS3.3–11V3A is a different option. Up-to100W input is distinct from200W total output. Exact Wh and full occupied-port table still need label/manual confirmation.
  1. Read exact output port, profile and occupied-port case for the intended load.
  2. Do not promise pass-through charging or count battery recharges unless that exact model/mode is documented.
  3. 200W is aggregate output. Each documented USB-C output is capped at20V5A/100W; no single-port >100W/EPR capability is documented here for A1336. A task needing >100W on one port needs a different exact documented source/sink/cable path.

AnkerPrime A1340 —27,650mAh /99.54Wh /250W total

Documented outcome: Exact model energy/output comparison

  • Manufacturer states99.54Wh; USB-C individual option up-to28V5A differs from250W total. Dual-input170W is conditional and not sustained throughout charging; do not turn it into guaranteed recharge time.
  1. Read exact output port, profile and occupied-port case for the intended load.
  2. For >100W use the documented EPR source/cable/device path; neither capacity nor the USB-C outline establishes it.
  3. Do not promise pass-through charging or count battery recharges unless that exact model/mode is documented.

Your next useful observation

Record bank model, Wh label, selected port/profile, cable and every other attached load.

Keep these limits

  • Wh for A1289/A1336 remains source-unconfirmed here; read their exact energy label before an energy comparison.
  • No battery energy/output/efficiency measurements or charge-time promises.
