Work through a named 10G optical path

A documented optical path needs compatible host ports, transceivers, fiber, end polish and Tx/Rx mapping. A matching LC shell answers only the physical-form question.

Applies to: Official-source documentary configuration; no hardware interoperability or optical-budget pass.

What the documents establish

The16.10.1 release notes list SFP-10G-SR-X with C9300-NM-8X across Catalyst9300 models. The transceiver sheet gives the SR-X850nm multimode case and up to400m on OM4, and permits PC/UPC patch cords rather than APC. Its minimum-cabling-distance footnote is2m.

The declared worked case

Declare two supported Catalyst9300/C9300-NM-8X ports using SFP-10G-SR-X in10GBASE-SR mode and a10m duplex OM4 LC PC/UPC path. Ten meters is the selected scenario length, not an observed cable or a new maximum. The existing Corning LC PC OM4 series is a selection reference; obtain the exact selected cord SKU/length and polarity evidence.

Separate paths and power

Traffic A→B must reach B's receiver, and traffic B→A must reach A's receiver on the other fiber. The hosts power their modules; the fiber does not deliver PoE. No USB peripheral or display-power path is implied.

Contrary and unknown cases

A same-shaped APC jumper conflicts with the sheet's supported PC/UPC patch-cord statement. An unlabelled LC jumper has unknown fiber/polish/polarity; it cannot be accepted as OM4 because it fits. A different module PID or OS needs its own support lookup.

What remains unobserved

No hardware setup, installed loss budget, launch/receive power, DOM reading or link negotiation was measured. The current dynamic compatibility-matrix page returned no readable rows, so this example remains explicitly tied to the historical release-note support, not a present-day deployment recommendation. Trained personnel must inspect/clean/reinspect isolated optical connections and test the installed path.

Your next useful observation

Record the exact model, selected length, both endpoint roles and required application. Keep undocumented properties unknown.
