ChromeOS and UD-MSTHDC: one output from each group

Plugable’s UD-MSTHDC is an exact Works With Chromebook product context. It uses two output groups; connect one display to each group, not two sockets in one group.

Applies to: Exact UD-MSTHDC on a ChromeOS host with documented USB-C DP Alt Mode/PD or qualifying Thunderbolt port. Host GPU/mode limits still apply; no ChromeOS runtime exercised.

What the path requires

  • Verify the exact Chromebook host port and display capacity.
  • Use supplied upstream USB-C cable and one output from each named group.
  • Match the complete mode to host/dock/monitor evidence; dual 4K60 is conditional.

Certification does not remove host limits

The manufacturer lists ChromeOS/Windows support and excludes macOS for this dock. Its MST topology and host display budget remain separate from the number of output sockets.

Documented outcome: Documented port-group conflict

  • Both physical sockets in one alternative-output group used.
  1. Use one output from Display 1 and one from Display 2.
  2. If still missing, inspect exact host capacity and requested mode.
